With YPbPr components, the sync pulses are always carried on the Y channel. The RGB or YPbPr signals are referred to as component video because the three colors, or the luminance and color difference signals, are kept separate. This is an important concept, both for analog and digital video. High definition video is always component; there is no such thing as high definition composite video.

Baseband The audio and video signals we have mentioned, directly representing sound and image information, are referred to as baseband signals. They can be carried as varying voltages over wires and cables and can be processed by various types of equipment. They cannot, however, be transmitted over-the-air by themselves.
